Sept 20th, 2022

Summer is finally coming to an end, and what a wonderful summer it was.

August 6th was a beautiful day for our 2nd Annual West Coast Classic Spikeball tournament, and we couldn’t have been happier! Our competitors served and spiked their way through double elimination to claim the cash prize and the glory of being named the 2022 West Coast Classic champions (which obviously meant the stakes were VERY high). We were thrilled to see some new and familiar faces on the field, and touched to see everyone compete with such good spirits in support of our cause.

On Saturday Sept 17th, 30 bicycles hit the road to raise money through this year's EDUFONDO (Bike-a-thon), our annual supported 50km, 30km or 15km ride. Our riders (which included everyone from individual pros to young family teams) were cheered on by our amazing volunteers who offered snacks and support at checkpoints along the way. Together, our participants raised an incredible event total of $5,516, which is the equivalent of fully funding 15 of our students for a whole year!

Our students are entering their last trimester of their school year, and we are so proud of the perseverance they have shown to make it this far. To adapt to the needs of our students who attend both public school and our program and to better accommodate our number of students, our program has shifted from three in-person classroom days to five. We are in admiration of the way our students and staff maintain and even grow in excitement for the opportunity to continue their education, and are so grateful to all of our financial partners who continue to make this possible.

On top of the added effort that this requires, our team in Guatemala is busy planning the return of the year-end community festival, which has been put on hold since Nov 2018 due to the pandemic. We are very excited at the prospect of impacting the community through this week-long festival, which includes a day-camp for children, various events for parents and a live nativity parade through the city. We can't wait to tell you how it goes in the next newsletter!

Until next time,
