Newsletter #17: Holiday Events!
The holiday season approaches, and with it, our last two events of the year!
#1: Giving Tuesday. On November 29th, we will be launching a Match campaign for Giving Tuesday, a global movement to celebrate radical generosity after the consumerism of Black Friday weekend. Every dollar you donate on that day will be matched by our matching donor (up to a total $5000), doubling your impact! Look out for the announcement email, and help us reach our full match potential!
#2: The Craft Fair returns! Join us on Sunday, Dec 4th from 2-6pm and make an impact with your holiday shopping. With 27 vendors who are generously donating a portion (or all) of their proceeds to our students in Guatemala, the 5th Annual EDUPAVI Craft Fair is sure to be the biggest and best yet. Support local makers, empower a new generation and work on your holiday gift list all at the same time! See you there!
UPDATES FROM GUATEMALA:
Last Friday, our students celebrated their last day of the school year! In Guatemala, the school year runs from January/February to October/November. We had eight students graduate from the 6th grade this year, and we could not be more proud of their perseverance and hard work throughout the seemingly impossible circumstances of the past few years (which for some included parental unemployment due to COVID, poverty and a lack of access to devices/internet for online learning).
We are excited for them to enroll in middle school (joining the less than 40% of children in Guatemala that do), but we are also reminded of our desire to expand our support past primary school so that we can continue walking with our students in this critical time. Many students have a difficult time transitioning from our supported program to public middle school and become discouraged as they face pressure to drop out to earn income for their families. With your support, we can pursue this tangible goal of including 7th-12th grade, as well as preschool/kindergarten, in our program.
